Sting has versatility Submitted on: 2009-11-24 |

If you enjoyed Sting's foray into John Dowland's lute music, you'll like this album.
In the past, Sting has injected a lot of his pop albums with lilting jazz, story-telling ballads and crazy time signatures. The effect is very thoughtful. This particular album is all comprised of all ballads, carols and lullabies with the theme of winter.
This album has jazz, classical and Celtic influences because Sting chose a variety of musicians from differing musical backgrounds-- harp, trumpet, classical cello, hurdy gurdy-- you name it.
It's definitely mature and would be great for meditative moods. I heard Boston's classical station playing some of this album on the radio the other day.
DVD is interesting-- you get to see the various musicians-- and I think like 30 minutes long.

Human beings are not bears that hibernate... Submitted on: 2009-11-15 |

| Well, I like listening to archaic songs from Sting. But... He should take into account, that human beings are not bears that hibernate... There's only ONE "vivace" song in the album... And to take a humorous look at the matter, it is a song of beggars! (Soul Cake) The remaining 15 songs are all like lullabies, which you shall listen to, before going to bed for sleep... So, are we bears that hibernate in winter time? Don't we have any vivid pastimes in front of a fireplace? I think, Sting should think more, before deciding on the repertoire of an album... |

January Stars...as I watched the mercury and thought about the prophecy... Submitted on: 2009-10-30 |

| and 1/2 stars. Sting has been leading up to this CD for some time now with songs like Lullaby for an Anxious Child, The Hounds of Winter, Gabriels Message and even January Stars (Japanese import bonus track from Ten Summoners Tales. The CD Mercury Falling and subsequent b-sides from that time period seem to be where some of the idea and tone may have originated. This is a beautiful CD with Stings voice directly up front. The musicianship is amazing and there are several references to Christmas. I didn't find the CD depressing in the least. |

Run away and don't buy Submitted on: 2009-10-29 |

| This is one of the worst recordings. It had great potential, however, Sting is out of his league. He spends way too much time trying to sing low notes out of his register. His diction is so bad that it is difficult to understand the lyrics. Look elsewhere for the holiday spirit |
